The Athabasca Hotel is a historic landmark offering budget-friendly accommodations in Jasper, known for its vintage charm and central location. However, recent reviews highlight issues with staff service, room noise, and basic amenities, alongside some positive feedback regarding cleanliness and value.
Worst staff and worst accommodation experience I’ve had. We were given the wrong room at check-in, and later the staff came back asking us to vacate because THEY had made a mistake with the key. I honestly don’t understand how guests are expected to deal with problems caused entirely by the hotel’s own error. Mistakes can happen — that’s understandable — but what is not acceptable is the complete lack of accountability or any attempt to compensate or properly accommodate us after the inconvenience. We paid for a service and instead were put in an uncomfortable situation through no fault of our own. The staff handled this very poorly and showed no effort to make things right. They ruined our stay. The experience felt extremely unwelcoming and disrespectful. Definitely not coming back.
Overall a great hotel. You definitely come here for the older vibes. It’ll set you back in time for sure but that is the experience that they provide. They don’t try and hide it. It’s well kept and very clean. Keep in mind there is no elevators and no AC. Some rooms have a shared washroom. Most rooms have no fridges. Internet is a bit slow and they give you a code per device so if multiple are staying in room you may need to ask for more codes but I’m not sure if they’ll provide them or not. I’ve stayed here multiple times and I plan to stay again next week.
I stopped in for lunch with a friend, and wow — the food was amazing! There were so many delicious options to choose from, and everything looked fresh and full of flavor. The service was absolutely wonderful — friendly, fast, and made us feel right at home. I’ll definitely be coming back for more!
This hotel is a price-quality ratio. We have been here twice and stayed in the cheapest room (with a shared bathroom and toilet), the rooms are very clean, the room has a personal hygiene product, TV, hair dryer and towels. The hotel has slot machines, a billiard table, a restaurant. There are also many free parking spaces at the back of the hotel. Of the minuses, it’s bad noise insulation. We heard all the rustle around. My advice: ask for rooms not near the public toilet.
I stayed at The Athabasca Hotel during my trip to Jasper and had a great experience. The rooms were clean and well-kept. Although the room I stayed in was a bit small, it was cozy and comfortable. They also offer rooms with a separate shared washroom, and I was pleasantly surprised at how clean and well-maintained the shared washrooms were throughout my stay. Overall, this is one of the best budget-friendly hotels in Jasper. Perfect for travelers who want a clean, convenient, and affordable place to stay while exploring the beautiful surroundings. Highly recommend!
Got to jasper last minute, no campsites avail and all hotels booked up. Decided to just try to get a room here and they hooked us up. Lil pricey for a room but well worth it. Nice rooms had our own bathroom and comfortable beds. Definitely would stay here again. Thanks jasper and athabasca hotel. Don’t listen to the bad reviews, it’s an old hotel but has lots of character and good vibes.
Visited Athabasca Hotel and it was well kept and cleaned great. Was curious about the work environment so I asked around and heard how bad the supervisor, if I remember correctly, Daisy is what her name apparent was. They talked about how tasks are not given appropriately and that everything she does and say come from a personal place. That is the short summary of it. It seems like such a toxic workplace behind all of those housekeeper's smiles in the morning when cleaning each rooms. I suggest the company find a new handler of the housekeepers instead of someone who finds pleasure in her housekeeper's pain. They said she is always on her phone and always pressures housekeepers to hurry with their jobs just because she has useless stuff for them to do.
Lovely old hotel but price reflects expectation. Bed could have been a little more comfy only had two pillows. Only noise we heard was AC unit out the window. Would stay here again! 2nd cheapest place in Jasper as well and the oldest hotel in Jasper!
I stayed at the Athabasca Hotel in Jasper for one night, and it was a very disappointing experience—especially considering the price of nearly $350 per night. The hotel lacked even the basic amenities you’d expect from a budget place, let alone one charging this much. There was no body wash, no hooks or hangers in the bathroom, and no service whatsoever. The overall upkeep felt neglected. On top of that, it was extremely noisy, making it hard to rest after a long day of travel. The walls are thin, and the sound carries easily, both from the street and inside the building. Given the price point, the experience was simply not worth it. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone—there are definitely better and more comfortable options available in Jasper.
A classic Jasper hangout. They've got it all going on here !- drinks, dancing , dinner and even VLTs. Amazing as well as kind staff and management alike. (Hunter,Murry, Joe's,Big Red, Hickey, Steve, both Holly's, Erin and Jorja to name a few) If you have never been to 'The B', I recommend you check it out ! Taco cups during happy hour are delicious ! Soup of the day too!
